There is probably no better bed for pressure relief than a memory foam mattress. With that being said, all-foam beds often sleep hot, and require additional solutions to their warm nature. In this Bear Pro mattress review, we’ll be taking a look at a mixed-foam bed with a new approach to temperature control.
If you’ve never heard of Bear - it is a New Jersey-based mattress company, founded in 2014. It focuses on creating top mattresses for pressure relief, specifically targeting people who are professional athletes, or simply like being active.
In this Bear Pro mattress review, you’ll get to know what’s best about this all-foam bed, what should be considered before buying it, and where you can get one. Finally, I’ll give you some of my closing thoughts, and an honest opinion on buying the Bear Pro.
Now, let’s see what this mattress is all about.
TL;DR: The Bear Pro is an all-foam mattress, topped with two layers of memory foam that are infused with copper and cooling gel for better temperature control. It provides a good amount of pressure relief, and has little to no motion transfer. This Bear bed is best for back and side sleepers because of its body-conforming capabilities.
While most of the feedback on it is decent, some Bear Pro mattress reviews showed that it was lacking edge support, and had very noticeable off-gassing. Likewise, a couple of customers claimed that the temperature control feature wasn't really that effective for hot sleepers.
Pros
- Pressure relief capabilities
- Isolates motion well
- Enjoyable for back and side sleepers
Cons
- Not that cool
- Poor edge support
- Off-gassing

Bear Pro Mattress Review: Structure
So, just like any structure, housing, whatever, mattresses have multiple layers that serve multiple purposes. The key feature of the Bear bed is to provide pressure relief, because that’s what foam mattresses usually do.
The whole bed is topped with Bear's very own Celliant Cover, which is part of its Sleep Recovery Technology. In fact, the cover is said to improve temperature regulation, and seemingly helps you stay cool throughout the night.
Then, there's the memory foam layer that is infused with copper for extra cooling and comfort. The copper assists the mattress in absorbing and releasing moisture a little quicker than regular foam. So, this obviously helps with temperature control.
Right underneath, there’s another, a bit more dense layer of gel memory foam that has some of its own temperature control and pressure relief capabilities.
After that, we have the responsive transition layer which is all polyfoam. It acts as sort of a cushioning element, so you don’t feel the highly-dense layer below. Finally, there's the base layer - 7 inches of polyfoam, which holds the upper layers in place, and keeps the whole mattress balanced.
All of these layers combined give the mattress a medium-firm feel (6 on the firmness scale). In fact, medium-firm mattresses are amongst the most popular ones, because they’re not too firm nor too soft.
So, at this point, we can look at how all of these layers combined give the Bear bed its most prominent features.
Bear Pro Mattress Review: PROS
This section of the Bear Pro mattress review will be all about positives. However, don’t get all psyched up about the good, because the bad also matters, so be sure to go through the cons as well.
Pressure Relief
Anyone that knows a tad bit about the types of mattresses will tell you that memory foam beds may have the best pressure relief capabilities. While they lack in some other areas, foam beds can help reduce risk of pressure injuries.[1]
Now, the Bear Pro is a medium-firm bed, which is probably the most common firmness across all mattresses. In fact, research suggests that medium-firm beds are the best choice for all sleepers, because they’re neither too soft, nor too firm.[2]
So, the whole construction of the Bear Pro mattress is basically foam. Interestingly enough, foam mattresses usually consist of two types of foam: polyfoam and memory foam.
But, why don’t they just use memory foam throughout the whole structure? I mean, it has one of the best pressure relief capabilities in terms of mattresses, right?
True, but, as I’ve established previously, mattresses are like houses. They need various layers to work nicely. Therefore, memory foam layers are usually stacked on top or in the middle of the mattress, while polyfoam acts as the foundation to hold everything together.
The Bear Pro has two memory foam layers that give you that nice body-contouring feel, especially for your spine, hips, and shoulders. But let’s not forget about polyfoam - the dense part of the mattress. It has some comforting features too; it molds to your natural body structure, and helps align the spine area with the rest of your body.
By looking at some Bear Pro mattress reviews from customers, I’ve found that its pressure relief feature was quite impactful, especially for those who participate in physical activities on a daily basis.
Most people felt reduced achiness around the neck and spine areas, which are probably the most common pressure points that get sore.
So, to summarize, the Bear bed seems to perform quite well in terms of pressure relief, as you would expect from an all-foam mattress. Now, let’s figure out how well it handles motion.

Good Motion Isolation
Ever had a mattress with springs almost poking out of the other end when you roll onto the opposite side? I know I have. And it’s not fun if you’re an average-weighing person like me.
This especially applies to couples that sleep together, and, in worst case scenarios, work different shifts. Sounds quite tragic. However, foam mattresses have no issues dealing with motion.
The Bear Pro, in fact, has terrific motion isolation because of two upper layers of memory foam, which are stabilized by two dense supporting layers of polyfoam. This creates an even amount of comfort, body-contouring, and obviously minimal motion transfer.
Customers had similar experiences as well. Multiple Bear Pro mattress reviews showed that people, especially those who have physically active jobs, were satisfied with the minimal motion transfer.
In fact, a feature like motion isolation is crucial for those working highly intensely or late at night, because these instances wear you out pretty quickly. Therefore, having a good nights’ sleep without interruption may prove beneficial for an active lifestyle.
Best for Back and Side Sleepers
Why can’t all mattresses be for all sorts of sleepers, huh? Yeah, I wish it was that simple. However, different body types require different surfaces to sleep on. On top of that, let’s not forget potential injuries, achiness, or even plain preference.
So, why is the Bear Pro only good for back and side sleepers? Well, memory foam and polyfoam are both conforming materials that mold to your body structure (especially memory foam).
Now, back sleepers require cushioning and body alignment for their spine and neck, while side sleepers need some support around their hips and shoulders. But, usually, foam mattresses are able to comfort both of these types of sleepers.
Based on some Bear Pro mattress reviews, customers felt some pressure relief around their hips and shoulders, which is to be expected since memory foam provides some nice body contouring around these areas. This will be quite noticeable especially for those who slept on spring mattresses all their lives.
So, it’s pretty safe to say that the Bear Pro has good enough pressure relief to hold up and comfort side and back sleepers with average weight. Now then, let's figure out why this mattress is so good for people who are physically active.
Great for Athletes
As I’ve mentioned earlier, Bear products are targeted towards people who are into sports, or just physical activities in general. This comes down to their mattresses being great in terms of pressure relief and comfort.
Now, the two top layers of the memory foam give you that body conforming feel, which is essential if you have any pain in commonly affected areas around the neck, hips, and spine.
More than that, the two dense layers of polyfoam at the bottom won’t let you sink too far into the mattress. This is highly crucial, because sinkage causes misalignment of your body that could result in achiness.
Likewise, polyfoam has its own body-conforming features as well via molding to your natural body curvature. Therefore, you’ll have a nice, thick layer holding you up which will also give you some extra pressure relief.
Now, when I went to look through some Bear Pro mattress reviews, I’ve actually encountered multiple customers that were more or less serious athletes. Interestingly enough, they felt like they got a bit more than they bargained for.
Some experienced less pressure around the spine area, while others enjoyed just the softness of the Bear bed which led to some better sleep overall.
All in all, I'd say the Bear Pro proves beneficial not only for people who are into sports, but any person who experiences achiness in commonly affected areas of the body.
Bear Pro Mattress Review: CONS
Now that we’re done with the positive side of the Bear Pro, let’s look at some features that aren’t that good. Some of these lackluster attributes are prevalent in most foam mattresses, so there’s not much you can do about them, but you should definitely know they exist.
Somewhat Cool, But Not There Yet
Having great temperature control in a foam mattress is somewhat hard to pull off. That’s because it tends to trap heat, and doesn’t really let it escape anywhere. Even if it’s perforated.
The same goes for hybrid mattresses. They aren’t able to hold up in the cooling department as well as innerspring mattresses. But you can’t have it all, right?
While the Bear Pro boasts about its Sleep Recovery Technology via copper and gel-infused memory foam layers, it really isn’t there just yet. It definitely performs better than your usual foam mattress, maybe even some hybrids, but I wouldn’t call it a cooling mattress.
People that are of average weight may feel fine in terms of temperature control, but if you’re on the heavier side, or just a hot sleeper in general, then I’d suggest going for something more sturdy with better airflow like a Saatva Classic.
Now, the Bear Pro mattress reviews from customers are quite split on this particular feature. Some say the top cooling memory foam layers are doing their job, while others see no difference in terms of temperature control.
Therefore, it really depends on your body type, weight, maybe even some underlying issues that induce sweating. So, if you consider yourself a person with above-average weight, or you just tend to wake up drenched in sweat, then I’d recommend going for something from the innerspring mattress repertoire.
Not Suited for Stomach Sleepers
Now, there are multiple mattresses with different firmnesses for a reason. Earlier I’ve touched on how side and back sleepers require a softer surface for body contouring and spine alignment.
However, stomach sleepers need a firmer surface. That’s because if their midsection starts to sink into the mattress, then their whole body will become misaligned. Which usually leads to discomfort, maybe even some pain.
Now, the Bear Pro can be considered a slightly firmer than the average medium-firm mattress, and it could be comfortable for some stomach sleepers that are in the average weight category.
However, heavier stomach sleepers will probably have to endure some sinkage, because the two memory foam layers aren’t very firm. This will make you sink into the transitional foam layers, which are not as comfortable as memory foam.
Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend it for stomach sleepers who are on the heavier side. In general, any stomach sleeper would probably enjoy something much firmer like a Saatva HD. This innerspring bed is as tough as these mattresses get, and will give you just the right amount of support for your stomach.
Poor Edge Support
It’s no secret that memory foam mattresses, or foam beds in general, lack reinforced edges. That is done on purpose though - to provide body contouring and pressure relief.
Now, if you’re in the average or lightweight category, then you may not be affected by sinkage as much as other people do. Edge support is usually important for heavier sleepers, people who tend to toss and turn during their sleep, or switch sleeping positions every now and then.
So, what about the Bear Pro? To tell you the truth, it has pretty much the same edge support as other foam mattresses. Sitting at the edge of the bed, or even lying at the side will most likely result in sinkage, especially if you’re a heavier person.
On the other hand, this could be a positive for some people who enjoy slightly sinking into their mattress. However, bigger people will probably feel like there’s too much sinkage, which may result in body misalignment during sleep; potentially causing some achiness.
When I’ve looked through some Bear Pro mattress reviews from customers, I noticed that quite a lot of people (even though they enjoyed the mattress) weren’t very happy with the edges as they were a tad bit too soft, and had some moderate sinkage.
Now, if you’re someone who needs that reinforced edge feel, or you just don’t wanna think about falling out of your bed at night - there are some great alternatives.
For instance, innerspring mattresses have great edge support because of, as their name suggests, spring bases. They have durable springs all around the sides which enables these mattresses to hold up a lot of weight. Not only that, such mattresses are quite heavy themselves, too.
If you’re interested in similar mattresses, then I’d suggest looking at some Saatva products, especially the HD variant which is probably one of the most durable mattresses out there.
Noticeable Off-gassing
If you’ve never heard the term "off-gassing", then I’m sure you know what it is. And it’s really nothing to worry about. Off-gassing is basically that smell that comes out when you open a package. This happens because the product inside usually absorbs various smells during the manufacturing and delivery processes.
In fact, modern mattresses are manufactured with low VOCs, so there’s less of that smell coming off of them. But foam mattresses are like huge sponges, and, therefore, they not only trap heat, but absorb surrounding smells.
Obviously, you wouldn’t want a plasticy odor coming off of your mattress, because you’re gonna be sleeping on it sooner or later. So, how is it in the Bear bed? I mean, to tell you the truth, it’s the same as with other mattresses that come in a box. You’ll definitely smell the off-gassing.
There’s not really that much that you can do about it, apart from airing the mattress out before actually placing it inside your bedroom. This can be done in some well-ventilated area, or an empty room where it can lie there for a couple of days. That should probably do it.
However, based on Bear Pro mattress reviews, some customers stated that the smell didn’t air out for at least a couple of weeks. But that’s probably because they’ve just taken their mattress right out of the box, and threw it into their bedroom.
In any case, if you’re truly worried about the off-gassing, or you just despise that plasticy smell, then I’d suggest getting a mattress that is not in a box. One of which could be, for instance, a Saatva Classic which gets hauled straight through your door without any packaging.
Table: Information on the Saatva mattress
Now that we’ve looked through all the ins and outs of the Bear Pro, I can say that it is slightly above average in terms of foam mattresses, but not as good as I wanted it to be. However, my final verdict will come down to its price, and how it compares to the prices of other similar beds.
Price
So, I’m sure you’re all wondering if the Bear Pro costs a ton, but you don’t want to spend that much for a bed, or if it’s dirt-cheap, and you’re not sure how it is going to hold up. Well, the Bear Pro holds a pretty average price tag.
Here’s a list of how much the Bear Pro costs depending on its size at the time of writing this article (prices are subject to change):
- Twin - $672
- Twin XL - $747
- Full - $897
- Queen - $972
- King - $1,122
- Cal King - $1,122
- Split King - $1,493
All in all, seeing as the prices of the Bear Pro are not too high, and in the similar range as other equivalent mattresses, I’d say it has a decent enough value for the money. On the other hand, previous Bear beds are a bit more budget-friendly, so there’s definitely a lot more to choose from.
If you want my advice, I would go for the Bear Pro King mattress, because you won’t have to worry about space, and it will be a whole lot more durable than the smaller Bear bed variants.
In fact, a lot of Bear Pro mattress reviews by customers showed that the Bear Pro King was their top choice. I believe that it’s quite practical to buy a larger mattress, even if you don’t need it to be large, because you won’t need to worry about getting a new one.
This usually happens when people buy mattresses for their children. I mean, while getting a small bed for your children is cute and all, they’ll eventually gonna grow up. So, thinking about the future is always a good idea.
More than that, I’d also suggest checking out some premium memory foam mattresses from Layla or Puffy, which are definitely not far from Bear beds in terms of price.
Now, I’m sure you’re wondering if there are any other benefits that you’ll get after purchasing the Bear Pro. You certainly will. But, firstly, let’s look at some interesting facts about the mattress itself.
Now, Bear Sleep is proud of its mattress policies, especially the Sleep Recovery Technology. This ensures that every bed complies with chemical emission standards, so there are no potentially hazardous chemicals in their products.
Likewise, Bear beds are CertiPUR-US and Greenguard GOLD certified. These are organizations that evaluate mattresses based on their VOCs, showing that Bear products don’t have potentially dangerous chemical substances.
Other than that, Bear offers a 100-Night Trial for their mattresses, so if you don’t enjoy your new bed for the first 3 months, then you may return it for a full refund, and free of any return charges. Also, you’ll get a 10-Year Warranty that covers manufacturing defects.
Now, what about shipping? Well, Bear usually ships within 2 to 7 days (free for contiguous states in the US with FedEx), but because of current circumstances, the mattress may be delivered a bit later than expected.
So, having all of this in mind, it’s safe to say that Bear does have some nice obligations to their customers, especially the full 10-Year Warranty in cases of manufacturing defects. For an average-priced mattress, I’d say it’s definitely worth a try.
Where to Buy Bear Mattresses?
Whether you’ve decided to go for this mattress or not, Bear offers multiple ways of testing their products before you actually buy them. So, the first way to obtain a Bear mattress is through their official website. Likewise, you'll obviously gonna be able to test it for a 3-month period.
Table: Information on the Bear Sleep company
However, if you want to see if the Bear bed is actually right for you, or maybe even look for some alternatives, then you may check out their showroom in New Jersey, or other partner stores across the US. This way, you'll have a better idea on what kind of mattress you're actually going to purchase.

Conclusions
Finally, the Bear Pro Mattress review has come to an end, and, to conclude this review, I'll give you my general thoughts on the Pro mattress. Either way, it is indeed a nice attempt at creating an all-foam mattress with some cooling features.
But, would I recommend it to you? I mean, if you’re satisfied with the features it gives, and you’re in the average weight category, then you may certainly go for it.
However, before you do, I’d suggest comparing it to some other memory foam mattresses by, let's say, Layla, and see which one comes out on top. In fact, Layla has its own mattress with a copper-infused memory foam layer.
Table: Pressure relief capabilities of the mattresses
Anyways, even though the Bear Pro has some decent pressure relief features, it struggles with edge support, and the cooling is slightly above average. Which is the case for most foam mattresses.
In summary, the Bear Pro is a pretty good choice for a budget/mid-range mattress in terms of pressure relief and motion transfer. However, if you’re looking for something cooler or more responsive, then you may check out some of the best cooling mattresses or Saatva innersprings.
