As people grow older, all sorts of sleeper-related conditions might tend to arise[1]. A lot of these conditions have to do with back, neck, shoulder and hip pain - to avoid (or mitigate) such problems, you’re going to need the best mattress for hip pain.

In order to find the best mattress for back and hip pain, I’ll tell you about some of the essential criteria for such a search. After that, we’ll be able to move on to talking about the actual mattresses on this list.

These are going to include:

Here is The Best Saatva Offer I Found:

How to Find the Best Mattress for Hip Pain?

Before we talk about and try to find the best mattress for hip pain, we need to first figure out the qualities that we should be looking at.

The most important features that the best mattress for hip bursitis should have are related to body conforming and motion isolation. These two features alone actually make up the big picture - if a mattress is poor at conforming to the sleeper’s body, it’s likely not even worth spending time looking at it.

You see, while you sleep, your body applies pressure to the mattress. A good bed will be able to spread that pressure all throughout itself[2], effectively eliminating the before-mentioned pressure points from the particular places on your body.

Since side sleepers are people who tend to have the biggest problems with their hips, the mattresses on this list are some of the contenders for the spot of the best mattress for side sleepers with hip pain.

Also, the design of the mattress is an important point to look at, too. By popular opinion, the best mattress for hip pain should either be based out of memory foam, latex, or be a hybrid. While innerspring mattresses are a little bit less popular when it comes to curing hip pain, they’re also seen as the “better option”.

Last but not least, the best mattress for hip pain should have proper edge support. This is most relevant to people who sleep on their side or tend to toss and turn throughout the night - often, these individuals will end up on the side of the mattress, and might fall off if the edges are weak. Also, weak edges aren’t really helpful for dealing with hip pain.

With all of that said, let’s go straight talking about the best mattress for hip pain.

How can a mattress that we sleep on affect our health?

A poor mattress can lead to misalignment of the spine, neck, and hips leading to a whole host of potential aches and pains. It can lead to pressure points and poor posture, which, over time, results in undue stress on the body.

Puffy is quickly rising in popularity as far as the best mattress for hip pain is concerned.

You see, Puffy is an all-foam bed. It's made out of memory foam - a material that should, in theory, relieve your back, shoulder and hip pain while you sleep.

Does it work in reality?

Well, judging from the various multiple customer reviews, it seems that yes - it does work pretty well.

There are multiple different reviews of people claiming that Puffy has helped them through some pretty rough times and pains. While the bed doesn't seem to be ideal for everybody, most people do like it and claim that it does the job perfectly.

When it comes to the "doesn't suit everyone" part, that is mostly because of the fact that some people can't stand all-foam beds. Even so, Puffy has some features that most people should appreciate - it's generally not too hot, provides good motion isolation, is quiet, etc.

Nectar is a surprisingly inexpensive mattress, given its reputation.

A single look online will reveal that customers absolutely adore this all-foam bed. Apparently, even the most adamant of skeptics are often left speechless once they see and try the mattress. So... What's so special about it?

Well, that's pretty simple - it's really good.

Nectar is built to last - customers claim that the bed is very durable. Surprisingly, being a memory foam-based mattress, Nectar doesn't really have the annoying "sinking" feature associated with other mattresses of its kind.

To add to that, the company behind Nectar has made sure to create a fully motion-isolating and conforming product. Keep in mind that all of this comes at an unbelievable price!

Let me just put this out straight off the bat - I’ll try to be as unbiased as possible with this bed, but I can’t give you a pinky swear.

I simply love New Purple.

The New Purple mattress is a hybrid with multiple different firmness options. Quite frankly, it’s a “work in the front, party in the back” type of a product.

You see, the New Purple doesn’t only aim to become the best mattress for hip pain - it comes equipped with some other, equally amazing features, too. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

The New Purple has superb body conforming features. Combine that with the fact that you can choose the bed’s firmness level, and you not only receive “the best mattress for hip bursitis”, but also a product that will be able to alleviate your back, shoulder, neck and other pressure points, as well.

Purple has great motion isolation, amazing breathability, is very bouncy and responsive - an all-around great product.

What is the New Purple Mattress Price?

The pricing options for the New Purple mattress:

I’ll admit - it’s definitely not the cheapest mattress in town. However, with so many different features packed into a single product, most customers agree that it’s definitely a worthwhile investment.

Now, let’s talk about PlushBeds - rather, their “Botanical Bliss” collection.

The Botanical Bliss is PlushBeds’ most popular mattress collection. It comes with multiple firmness latex mattresses.

The Botanical Bliss can definitely be considered a great option to become the best mattress for back and hip pain - it’s very well-built, isolates motion on par with other high-end latex beds, and is made to conform perfectly well to the sleeper’s body.

Keep in mind that the mattress isn’t very responsive, plus it lacks a bit of that oh-so-dear edge support. Other than these couple of quirks, however, people seem to truly love this mattress series from PlushBeds.

What is the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress Price?

The pricing and sizing options for the Botanical Bliss mattress collection:

Well, it’s definitely one of the most expensive mattresses on this list, especially if you take into account the fact that you can choose the thickness of the bed, and increasing it will result in even heftier price tags.

Loom and Leaf brands itself as a “luxury foam mattress”. That’s actually a correct way of putting it, judging by the majority of “best mattress for back and hip pain” reviews.

The mattress being considered a luxury one, you can be sure that the features that it comes equipped with are going to be top-tier. And, well, yet again, taking a look at some of the customer reviews, that becomes rather evident.

The Loom and Leaf bed offers sleepers an amazing compromise between motion isolation and conforming. It’s actually one of the more stereotypical mattresses, as far as the whole “foam VS innerspring” debate is concerned. Having said that, it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Motion isolation is going to be important in order for you to have a good night’s sleep, especially if you sleep with someone who is a restless marathon runner during the night. Conforming, however, is the go-to feature here - Loom and Leaf is seen as a great contender for becoming the best mattress for hip pain, mostly because it tends to conform to the person’s body so well.

Downsides? Ya, well, there are a few. As I’ve mentioned earlier, it’s a “stereotypical foam mattress” - it comes with stereotypical problems.

Loom and Leaf does, reportedly, sleep rather hot. Also, it isn’t at all bouncy, so if you’re in the market for some other reason other than finding the best mattress for side sleepers with hip pain, you might be disappointed.

What is the Loom and Leaf Mattress Price?

For a luxury mattress, the prices aren’t at all that bad! Do consider Loom and Leaf as an option to become the best mattress for back and hip pain!

Just like some other mattresses on this list, Leesa is a foam bed. It’s relatively firm, but is also absolutely amazing at conforming to the objects placed on it - the sleeper included.

Leesa doesn’t make any noises when laid on, and is actually rather cool, especially when compared to other all-foam beds. Customers state that, while the mattress isn’t the most durable or responsive product that they’ve ever bought, they are still rather satisfied with how the bed deals with hip pain.

While it might be a good option for becoming the best mattress for hip pain, the same cannot be said about being a great bed for sex. Leesa isn’t very responsive, and will most likely lead to some sinkage when you try… Hm… Bouncing on it.

7. Zenhaven - Luxury Latex Bed

Ranks #7 out of 7 Mattresses

Zenhaven is a latex-based mattress. It’s one of the better all-latex mattresses on the current market and, as I’ve mentioned at the beginning of this “Best Mattress for Hip Pain” list, latex is a great material for hip pain relief.

When you lay down on the mattress, you’ll immediately notice that the pressure of your body is dispersed all throughout the bed. This way, the oh-so-painful pressure points don’t get the opportunity to form, and already-existing ones start to dissipate.

The bed is completely silent, isolates motion very well and is even somewhat responsive (which is odd for an all-latex product). A great package indeed!

What is the Zenhaven Mattress Price?

Since Zenhaven, same as Loom and Leaf, is also considered to be a luxury mattress, the price is a bit on the higher end of things. Take a look:

While the smaller sizes are relatively affordable, some people are likely going to be shocked as soon as they see the Queen or King sizes. That being said, if you’re looking for the best mattress for hip bursitis, Zenhaven is definitely a close option!

Other Less Favoured Mattresses in This Category

Here are other mattresses related to the category but not as favoured by MyBestMattress readers yet. In my personal opinion, today there are much more optimal mattresses in the list with the higher rating that I'd recommend for the same price range or less.

WinkBeds - Good-Quality Innerspring Bed

Remember when I went on about “the best mattress for hip pain being either a foam or a latex bed”?

Well, WinkBed is one of the rare exceptions.

WinkBed comes in two different models - you could either purchase the original bed, or go for the WinkBed PLUS - a mattress designed for heavier sleepers.

The original bed is an innerspring mattress with multiple firmness options to choose from. Since firmness is a key component of curing hip pain, this is great straight from the get-go - you’ll most likely want to go with the firmer option of the bed.

So, then, what makes the WinkBed a good contender for the spot of the best mattress for hip pain? Well, the bed is very durable, and designed with heavier sleepers in mind. To add to that, as far as innerspring mattresses are concerned, WinkBed is actually relatively good at isolating motion and conforming to the sleeper’s body.

Where it lacks in motion isolation, though, the mattress compensates with some proper innerspring mattress edge support. Reading through customer reviews, it seems that if you choose to purchase the WinkBed, you’re likely to have zero problems as far as this feature is concerned.

Here is The Best Saatva Offer I Found:

What is the WinkBed mattress price?

WinkBed’s prices are, as follows:

  • Twin - $1049
  • Twin XL - $1149
  • Full - $1299
  • Queen - $1599
  • King - $1799
  • Cal King - $1849

While the mattress isn’t really the cheapest option around, it has made a reputation of being one of the most reliable innerspring products for people looking for the best mattress for hip bursitis. So, if a more traditional innerspring bed is what you prefer, definitely give WinkBed a shot!

Casper - Good Motion Isolation and Conforming

The Casper mattress is an all-foam bed. It’s one of the best-known mattresses in the industry - let’s take a look for why that’s the case.

Casper comes equipped with some of the highest level motion isolation and conforming features. Wherever you look on the internet, most customer reviews seem to agree - it’s a great bed for anyone looking to cure their painful pressure points.

While it comes with only a single firmness option, Casper is actually on the firmer side of the spectrum. That’s great news - after all, if you want to get rid of the issue, the best mattress for hip pain isn't going to be one that allows your hips to sink further into the bed as you sleep!

Here is The Best Saatva Offer I Found:

What is the price of the Casper mattress?

Casper’s pricing options:

  • Twin - $595
  • Twin XL - $695
  • Full - $895
  • Queen - $1,095
  • King - $1,395
  • Cal King - $1,395

As you can probably see for yourself, Casper isn’t actually a very expensive mattress. The base model, without any additional add-ons, is truly very affordable!

I was so nervous about buying this without testing it out but thought the price was really good for a natural mattress

Just got this mattress. I was so nervous about buying this without testing it out but thought the price was really good for a natural mattress without synthetic foams and flame retardants. It has some give on the surface but overall very firm, which is perfect. Also, the only smell when you open it is wool, a little bit like a barn, but soooo much better than a toxic chemical smell.

Works for me.

I have had this mattress for about 30 days now and it has just broken in and has relaxed some. I bought the firm and my wife got the medium to make a king size bed. The reason I got the firm is because I am a large guy (300 lb) and from all I read a firm mattress is the way to go for someone my size and a stomach sleeper. The mattress I had before this one was a soft memory foam mattress and it was killing my back. I sleep much better with this mattress and my back is much less sorer when I get up in the morning. Make sure you give it enough time to break in and I think it will work for you. I obviously can't speak to how well it performs over an extended period of time but for now I am happy.

finally, balanced comfort and sound sleep

This was my third mattress in a year. (I thank The Great Pumpkin for 120-day exchange terms.) The first, a "firm" innerspring, did not provide consistent support; the second, memory foam, depending on weight distribution, alternately swallowed me or dumped me out of bed. (But truth-to-tell, there was a wild card in the prescription, an 80 dog, but once curled up, he doesn't move a muscle all night.) Both were more expensive than the Green Natural Latex Mattress, which is, per Goldilocks, Just Right.

FAQ

Can a mattress really heal hip pain?

It depends. If your hip pain is mediocre, and you've developed it while sleeping on uncomfortable beds, then a proper mattress can definitely help you solve that. However, if your problem is more severe, then the mattress might do little more than alleviate it - again, it's very situation-dependant.

How do mattresses heal hip pain?

A mattress that's designed in a way that alleviates hip pain is going to remove pressure points from your body - naturally, this especially applies to the hips. Most commonly, this would be a memory foam or latex mattress.

How to choose the best mattress for me?

When choosing the best mattress for yourself, there are a few important factors that you should consider. First of all, what type of mattress do you need? The most traditional mattresses are memory foam, innerspring and latex, but there are other options, too. Secondly, think about how much you can spend on a mattress, but remember it doesn’t mean that the mattress is better if it’s more expensive. Furthermore, pick a size and firmness depending on your preferences. Finally, think about your sleeping position, it will also influence your decision.

How much does a good mattress cost?

Mattress price usually varies depending on a few factors, such as mattress type, size, height, quality of the material and durability. Today the price of a mattress can vary from $150 to $7000. However, you can find a good mattress for under $1000. The average pricing of a foam mattress is about $900 dollars, innerspring $950. These are the least expensive mattresses. However, if you can afford more expensive ones, you can consider a hybrid mattress for about $1,650, latex - about $2,000.

What size mattress should I get?

Most mattress providers offer 6 standard sizes, including Twin, Twin XL, Full/Double, Queen, King, and California King. A Twin mattress is great for children or young adults who live alone. A Twin XL mattress is great for children or single adults but not comfortable for couples. A Full/Double bed is excellent for children and couples, however, it won’t work if both people like to have more space. Queen mattresses work great for adults who like to sleep near each other. A King bed is amazing for couples who like to have some space or sleep with a pet. Finally, a California King mattress is amazing for tall people and couples who like to have space or sleep with their pets.

How long does a mattress last? When should you replace your mattress?

Mattress durability depends on the materials that were used to make it. The average lifespan of a mattress varies from 7 to 10 years. However, good quality mattresses can last even longer. It is recommended to replace your mattress every 8 years, but if it still feels great, there’s no need. If you want to buy a mattress that lasts longer than average, you should consider latex or memory foam mattresses. These can serve up to 10 or 15 years while Innerspring mattresses usually last about 7-8 years.
