I would like to begin this article by saying that choosing the best mattress for kids is so much different from buying one for yourself as there are different measures to consider.

First of all, children are growing very fast and, since the bed is a big investment, parents usually buy the mattress considering the fact that children will weight and be twice as big before reaching the teenage years. For that reason, parents either buy cheaper mattresses or simply take the size, which will be still suitable after they grow up.

So, you might notice that the most popular kids' mattresses usually come in Twin or Twin XL mattress sizes. Also, there’s a possibility to either choose specialized mattresses for kids or simply consider the ones that are overall the best in the market, without focusing on the fact if the mattress is created specifically for toddlers, children or adults.

In this review, you will find the best children mattresses, their pros, and cons, pricing and size options. At the very end, I will conclude everything and recommend you the best option.

Here is the best mattress for kids list that I will go through in this article:

Here is The Best Saatva Offer I Found:

Best Mattress for Kids: Best Products You Can Find

Let’s get into the best twin mattress for toddlers and kids.

Kylie Crowley

What is important to keep in mind when choosing a mattress for kids?

When choosing a mattress for your kids, it is important to focus on comfort and sound. I have noticed with lower quality mattresses that they can make noise as children roll in the night and flip from belly to back. It is easy for children to wake in the night, so we want all sleep factors to contribute to great sleep. We also want your child to feel comfortable, and for most, that means a softer mattress.

Now, why should you choose Saatva? First of all, it should serve you at least seven or eight years. Secondly, the mattress offers great conforming, it adapts to the body curves perfectly, so your child will feel like sleeping on the cloud. It also adds pain relief for those who have growing pains.

Nectar is one of the best budget-friendly memory foam mattress, which is designed from high-quality materials. It can be called the best mattress for kids as the pricing is quite low compared to other beds, so parents won’t have to be worried about the children growing out of the bed faster than expected.

Nectar is great for those children who tend to sleep hot. Due to the gel memory foam, it sleeps so much cooler than regular memory foam mattresses. It also doesn’t give the sleeper that feeling of sleeping in the mattress but rather on the mattress, which also adds extra coolness.

Now let’s move to more specific Nectar features. The mattress should serve you at least seven years, it offers good motion and sound isolation, amazing conforming and great edge support. Also, since the mattress is medium firm, it’s the best mattress for kids on average or heavy-weight groups.

What is Nectar mattress price?

Puffy is another mattress, which is also often considered as the best mattress for toddler. It offers one firmness option - medium, which can be great for almost every kid. Puffy is the memory foam mattress, which is designed from three layers of memory foam.

So, why should you consider Puffy as the best twin mattress for toddler? First of all, this mattress will serve your kid at least seven years, it offers perfect motion and sound isolation, which will allow your child to sleep as calm as never.

Now, the majority of memory foam mattresses sleep hot, however, Puffy manages to maintain the temperature neutrality to allow your kid to sleep cool. It also produces very minimal odor, so the Puffy won’t irritate your child with an unpleasant smell.

What is the Puffy base mattress price?

Here’s the list of the size and pricing options for the Puffy mattress:

I'd say $495 is just the right amount to pay for your child's bed, especially since Puffy maintains the perfect price-quality ratio.

One of the major reasons why Layla is in the best kids mattress list is its design. Layla is a flippable mattress, which gives you two firmness choices in one bed. Layla is designed from copper-infused memory foam, convoluted foam and the support foam, it also has a cover infused with ThermoGel.

All of these design properties maintain neutral body temperature throughout the night.

What is more, Layla will serve your child for at least seven years, so the best choice would be to choose Twin or Twin XL (if your kid is no longer toddler) mattress size. It minimizes the motion transfer to a significant extent and also produces very minimal sound. Both of these qualities are needed in order for your child to have a high quality sleep without any interruptions[1]

Now, compared to other foam mattresses, Layla produces minimal odor, so even if your kid is very sensitive, it can still be the best mattress for toddler. Now, Layla mattress reviews showed that customers are very pleased with pain and pressure relief, so it can be an amazing option for children who are growing fast and experience aches.

The only reason why Layla couldn’t be considered the best mattress for kids is weak edge support. Similar to other memory foam mattresses, some sinking on the edges can be expected from Layla.

What is the Layla mattress price?

Layla mattress is quite often on discount but here is the regular Layla price list:

So, you can get pain and pressure relieving mattress for an affordable price.

5. Purple Kids Mattress - Breathable and Hypoallergenic

Ranks #5 out of 7 Mattresses

Purple is a well-known mattress brand. It's famous for not being afraid to stand out of the crowd. Sometimes, this can be a bad thing - with Purple, though, it's the opposite.

The Purple twin-size mattress for kids came into the market just recently. This mattress design is softer and lighter compared to the traditional Purple mattress. It can provide the ultimate comfort for children up to 14 years old.

The mattress is Clean Air GOLD and CertiPUR-US certified, so you can know that your child is experiencing a healthy nighttime sleep. What is more, the cover can be removed in seconds, so you can keep the mattress clean at all times without much trouble.

According to the majority of customer reviews, the Purple kids' mattress can certainly be the best mattress for children. It's amazing at providing motion isolation and comfort. It quickly adapts to the movement and provides support where needed.

Furthermore,  Purple utilizes a special type of technology that can ensure that your child is never experiencing any heat waves. The mattress breathes extremely well and will allow your kid to experience the highest-quality sleep[2].

The only drawback is that Purple mattress for kids comes with only one size option - twin. Of course, since it was created for kids, this is something to be expected.

What is the Purple Kids Mattress Pricing?

The Purple mattress for kids costs $499. It comes with a 100-night trial, 10-year warranty, and is delivered completely free

Leesa provides sleepers with two mattress options, one of them is the traditional mixed-foam Leesa mattress, another one is Leesa Hybrid mattress. However, since you’re looking for the best kids mattresses, I will only present you the traditional Leesa.

Leesa comes in only one, medium (5) level of firmness. As it is not too soft and not too firm, this bed should be great for almost every sleeper. This bed should also serve your kid for more than seven years, so it’s really an investment in the future.

You can also expect perfect motion and sound isolation from Leesa. And, if your kid is sleeping hot, it’s also an option, as Leesa offers good temperature neutrality. Even if some of the sleepers claimed that they sleep hot, the majority were pleased with the coolness.

You should also know that Leesa offers great conforming, it adapts to the body lines perfectly to provide the sleeper with the best pain and pressure relief, which you already know is needed not only for older people but also for kids.

And, once again, similar to Layla and Zenhaven, Leesa lacks edge support. But since this feature is the most important to couples, your child shouldn't feel any major difference. So, Leesa is still one of the best children mattresses in the market.

What is Leesa Mattress Pricing?

Here’s the full Leesa mattress price list, including the twin size kids mattress:

Once again, that's quite a similar pricing to other beds in this list,  but you get one of the best mattresses in the market.

7. Zenhaven - Organic Option

Ranks #7 out of 7 Mattresses

Zenhaven is another great product, which can also be an amazing children mattress. This bed has two firmness options in one, as it is the flippable mattress, one side is medium soft (4), another one is firm (7).

It’s designed from Talalay latex, which is antimicrobial, dust mite resistant and hypoallergenic, which is one of the best options for sensitive and allergic children. Also, since it’s created from natural materials, it produces minimal odor, which evaporates very quickly.

Moving further, this best mattress for kids offers great conforming for perfect pain and pressure relief. As you know, these qualities are not only needed for adults but also for children who are growing quickly and experience some pain due to this.

Now, if your child is sleeping hot, then this is also one of the best kids mattresses as it sleeps relatively cool and comfortable, so your kid will get the quality rest.

The only feature that this mattress lacks is edge support. Zenhaven has very minimal edge support, which may cause that sinking feeling when sleeping on the edges. However, this problem is more relevant to couples, children shouldn’t feel any major difference.

What is the Zenhaven mattress price?

Zenhaven pricing options are, as follows:

As you can see, this provider is a more expensive one, but that's because Zenhaven is a luxury mattress.

Other Less Favoured Mattresses in This Category

Here are other mattresses related to the category but not as favoured by MyBestMattress readers yet. In my personal opinion, today there are much more optimal mattresses in the list with the higher rating that I'd recommend for the same price range or less.

Brooklyn Bedding - It's a Fine Option

The last product in the best mattress for kids list is the Brooklyn Bowery mattress, which is one of the most budget-friendly options for parents who want to save some money.

Now, the question is, why should the Brooklyn Bowery mattress consider the best twin mattress for toddler and the best kids mattress, in general? To begin with, it’s a mixed foam mattress, designed from good materials, including the quilted polyfoam cover high-density support foam and dual-layer polyfoam. Even if this mattress has only one level of firmness, since it’s medium (5.5), it should be great for the bigger part of sleepers, including kids.

Let me tell you what other features make it a good mattress for kids. The Bowery mattress should maintain its quality for at least seven years, it minimizes the motion transfer and produces almost none sound.

What is more, your child will get the perfect conforming, pain and pressure relief, which is especially needed for those who experience growing pains. Also, even if it’s a memory foam mattress, it’s still one of the best children mattresses for those who tend to sleep hot. Bowery mattress manages to maintain neutral body temperature as it absorbs very little body heat.

What is the Brooklyn Bowery Mattress Pricing?

Here are the Brooklyn Bowery mattress price options:

  • Twin - $499 USD
  • Twin XL - $549 USD
  • Full - $649 USD
  • Queen - $699 USD
  • King - $949 USD
  • CA King - $949 USD

High-quality mattress with excellent customer service

This mattress is very well-made in the USA. The firm version is quite firm and ended up being more than I wanted (as a side sleeper). I suspect it's best for back sleepers, and it may be more comfortable with slats than a solid platform. That said, the mattress is very comfortable and any discernible odor dissipated within a day. I actually ended up going with the medium firm version. When I needed to get a refund on one of the mattresses, the customer service was quick and excellent! My only word of warning is that this mattress is very heavy--at about 140 pounds--and it's harder to move than conventional mattresses because it tends to fold rather than stand on its side--so be sure you have 2 strong people to get it into place.

Works for me.

I have had this mattress for about 30 days now and it has just broken in and has relaxed some. I bought the firm and my wife got the medium to make a king size bed. The reason I got the firm is because I am a large guy (300 lb) and from all I read a firm mattress is the way to go for someone my size and a stomach sleeper. The mattress I had before this one was a soft memory foam mattress and it was killing my back. I sleep much better with this mattress and my back is much less sorer when I get up in the morning. Make sure you give it enough time to break in and I think it will work for you. I obviously can't speak to how well it performs over an extended period of time but for now I am happy.

I was so nervous about buying this without testing it out but thought the price was really good for a natural mattress

Just got this mattress. I was so nervous about buying this without testing it out but thought the price was really good for a natural mattress without synthetic foams and flame retardants. It has some give on the surface but overall very firm, which is perfect. Also, the only smell when you open it is wool, a little bit like a barn, but soooo much better than a toxic chemical smell.

So good, whoever sleeps on this mattress will forgive your nocturnal farting!

Though apprehensive of a mattress in a box, my feelings were somewhat assuaged by being compared, in respects to comfort, by other mattresses on the market that are in the $4000-$3000 range and number one in value, obviously, from a reputable consumer magazine I subscribed to when I bought a washer and dryer. Those other mattresses are out of the question. But how could this latex mattress possibly hold up? I believe you get what you pay for - if you buy cheap, you get cheap, right?

Helps with back pain, but could be cooler

Yes, Nectar bed doesn't cost a lot compared to other mattress brands but still I wish it cost less. It's so comfy that I bought one for my mother, she has back pain problems and she also loves this mattress. I read in several nectar mattress reviews that sometimes it's too hot and I have to agree with that a bit, because on very very hot summer nights, it might lack some cooling...

Such a great mattress!

We were looking for a non-toxic option for our next mattress and this one is amazing! We have the firm, King model and it's just as described. But it is heavy. We huffed and puffed to get it up the stairs. I'm not looking forward to trying to move it again. Ever. Overall though, this is the best mattress that I have ever had, by far.

FAQ

What is the best mattress size for kids?

Majority of the kids and teenagers prefer Twin or Twin XL mattress sizes. Since mattresses are a long-term investment and kids grow rapidly, twin-size mattresses are the smartest option.

What are the top mattress brands for kids?

Just like us, kids need the pressure-relieving a comfortable mattress that would provide enough support. While kids need softer alternative due to their weight, you can always pick from the best mattress providers and know that you made the right choice. Here are the most recommended mattress brands: Saatva, Nectar, Puffy.

How to choose the best mattress for me?

When choosing the best mattress for yourself, there are a few important factors that you should consider. First of all, what type of mattress do you need? The most traditional mattresses are memory foam, innerspring and latex, but there are other options, too. Secondly, think about how much you can spend on a mattress, but remember it doesn’t mean that the mattress is better if it’s more expensive. Furthermore, pick a size and firmness depending on your preferences. Finally, think about your sleeping position, it will also influence your decision.

How much does a good mattress cost?

Mattress price usually varies depending on a few factors, such as mattress type, size, height, quality of the material and durability. Today the price of a mattress can vary from $150 to $7000. However, you can find a good mattress for under $1000. The average pricing of a foam mattress is about $900 dollars, innerspring $950. These are the least expensive mattresses. However, if you can afford more expensive ones, you can consider a hybrid mattress for about $1,650, latex - about $2,000.

What size mattress should I get?

Most mattress providers offer 6 standard sizes, including Twin, Twin XL, Full/Double, Queen, King, and California King. A Twin mattress is great for children or young adults who live alone. A Twin XL mattress is great for children or single adults but not comfortable for couples. A Full/Double bed is excellent for children and couples, however, it won’t work if both people like to have more space. Queen mattresses work great for adults who like to sleep near each other. A King bed is amazing for couples who like to have some space or sleep with a pet. Finally, a California King mattress is amazing for tall people and couples who like to have space or sleep with their pets.

How long does a mattress last? When should you replace your mattress?

Mattress durability depends on the materials that were used to make it. The average lifespan of a mattress varies from 7 to 10 years. However, good quality mattresses can last even longer. It is recommended to replace your mattress every 8 years, but if it still feels great, there’s no need. If you want to buy a mattress that lasts longer than average, you should consider latex or memory foam mattresses. These can serve up to 10 or 15 years while Innerspring mattresses usually last about 7-8 years.
