The sleep industry has been propping up hybrid mattresses for a while now, especially Casper. In this article, we’ll take a look at some Casper Hybrid mattress reviews, and analyze its features from a research-based perspective.
Don’t know what Casper is? Well, it is an NYC-based mattress company that provides sleep products across the US, and mostly operates in an online environment.
Now, in this Casper Hybrid mattress review, I’ll take you through some of Casper's hybrid bed options, and their positive and negative features. So, without further ado, let’s see what these Casper Hybrids are made of. Literally. We’ll start with the structure.
TL;DR: Casper Hybrid mattresses have some great pressure relief and motion isolation capabilities. Therefore, they're best suited for side and back sleepers. On the other hand, the higher-end models are quite expensive, and, based on Casper Hybrid mattress reviews, most of them lack temperature control and edge support.
Pros
- Good Pressure Relief
- Motion Isolation
- Best for Side and Back Sleepers
Cons
- Lackluster Edge Support
- Not for Stomach Sleepers
- Off-gassing

Casper Hybrid Mattress Reviews: Structure
There are multiple choices for hybrids in the Casper product catalog. Some "true" hybrids are the Nova and Wave. However, the Casper Original has an optional choice for pocketed springs, which also makes it a hybrid mattress.
Now, if we take a look under the covers of these hybrid mattresses, they seem to be quite unique in their own ways. P.S. I won’t mention the pocketed spring layers, because each of these hybrid mattresses have the same one that provides slight edge support and airflow.
So, firstly, The Original has a top premium foam layer, also known as AirScape, which increases airflow throughout the mattress. Also, it has a Zoned Support memory foam layer with 3 ergonomic zones for body contouring.
Then, there’s the Nova which has an extra AirScape layer in the middle, and a Zoned Support Pro layer. The additional AirScape layer prevents the mattress from overheating, and has some extra support for pressure relief.
Likewise, it has the Zoned Support Pro which is an upgraded version of the regular Zoned Support layer. It has 7 ergonomic zones for pressure relief, and acts as a supportive element for the layer above.
Finally, we have the Casper Wave Hybrid mattress which has 5 layers, primarily focused on better cooling. Now, the two top AirScape layers are there to enhance temperature control. The first one is infused with cooling gel, while the other has thousands of small holes for better breathability.
Likewise, it has a Zoned Support Max memory foam layer which is separated into 3 ergonomic zones for better body contouring. The last one is a regular polyfoam layer with gel pods that provides some extra comfort and spine alignment.
Now, in summary, the Original is far less packed with foam, while the Nova and Wave have more cooling features and better body-contouring layers. However, all of them are somewhat similar.
As a side note, I’m sure you’ve also heard about the Casper Select 12 Hybrid medium mattress. Well, it was definitely a good competitor to the Casper Original in terms of price and decent edge support. But, currently, the Select is discontinued.
Either way, in the following Casper Hybrid mattress reviews section, we’ll be looking at the top features that these hybrid mattresses have to offer. We’ll go through every model at a time.
Casper Hybrid Mattress Reviews: Original
Initially, The Casper Original was just a regular foam mattress. But, now, you can choose the hybrid option which adds a pocketed spring base to it. Let’s see what it’s all about.
Pros
To start off, we’ll look at the pressure relief capabilities of the Casper Original. It's a medium-firm mattress, which, according to research, has some abilities to alleviate pressure in the back and improve sleep quality.[1]
Now, it is topped with a premium AirScape layer which provides some pressure relief and cushioning for your spine. The second one is a Zoned Support memory foam layer which makes the mattress a tad softer under the shoulders, and firmer around the spine area.
In fact, some Casper Hybrid mattress reviews suggested that the firmness of the mattress was a bit on the tougher side so it took some getting used to. But, in the end, it turned out to be just firm enough, mostly for average-weight sleepers. All in all, the Original performs quite well in the pain relief department.
Moving on, we have the motion isolation feature. Now, it’s no secret that foam-based mattresses deal quite well with motion transfer, because there aren’t any springs that would react to movement as much.
On the other hand, hybrids like the Casper Original have pocketed spring bases that give some responsiveness to the mattress. So, one would think it gives the Original some motion transfer.
However, the pocketed springs are wrapped into small foam sleeves that make them move only when there’s direct pressure applied. Therefore, movement will be felt only on one side of the mattress.
Also, let’s not forget that the pocketed spring base is topped with two layers of foam which will most likely absorb any potential motion transfer that the pocketed springs may give off.
Now, I’ve looked for some Casper Hybrid mattress reviews on this particular feature, and found that customers were very satisfied with its ability to absorb motion. It was especially useful for people who work late night shifts, and share beds with their partners.
Finally, let’s talk about sleeping positions. Now, people who sleep on their side or back usually require more cushioning around their spine, hips, and shoulders for better pressure relief. In fact, sleeping on the side is the most common position of them all.[2]
Anyways, how does the mattress structure help side and back sleepers? Well, the two foam layers provide some contouring features and keep your spine aligned with the rest of your body. Likewise, the medium-firmness (which is a bit on the tougher side) won’t let you sink as much into the foam layers.
So, based on Casper Hybrid mattress reviews, customers in the average weight category had positive experiences regarding pressure relief, precisely in the back and hip areas. Therefore, it seems that the Casper Original would be a better choice for those who enjoy that conforming feeling around your body.
At this point, we'll touch a little bit on the temperature control of the Casper Original. Now, it’s quite common for foam mattresses to have poor cooling, because pretty much any type of foam just traps the heat without it being able to escape during the night.
Now, regarding the Casper Original, surprisingly, it does much better than most foam mattresses. That’s probably because it consists of only two layers of foam, and the pocketed spring base is able to get some airflow through the whole mattress.
As a side note, you obviously shouldn’t expect it to have superb cooling as an innerspring mattress, but it’s definitely better if you compare it to other mattresses that have 4 or more layers of foam.
So, to conclude, it’s safe to say that the Casper Original hybrid mattress is definitely a nice choice for people who suffer from hip or back pain, and like a bit of cushioning around their body structure with somewhat a cooler sleeping experience.
However, just like any mattress, the Casper Original has some features that aren’t particularly good.

Cons
We’ll start off by going with the obvious one, which is edge support. Now, foam mattresses always struggle with holding up weight on their sides, because there’s nothing to push it back up. However, hybrid mattresses have pocketed spring bases that should sustain some of the weight, right? Well, not entirely.
In the case of the Casper Original, it may hold up minimal weight on the sides, because it has pocketed springs placed alongside the edges. On the other hand, pocketed springs are not that responsive, so you’ll eventually experience some sinkage when sitting on the edge of your bed.
Likewise, earlier, I’ve mentioned sleeping positions. While back and side sleepers shouldn’t have many issues, stomach sleepers will very likely experience some sinkage.
Therefore, a medium-firm feel of the Casper Original makes it not too soft, nor firm which is perfect for side and back sleepers; although some side sleepers may require more cushioning for their shoulders.
So, what about stomach sleepers?
I mean, the amount of sinkage will eventually come down to your weight, but, I’d say it would be completely fine for lightweight stomach sleepers.
However, a safe option for any stomach sleeper would be an innerspring mattress like a Saatva Classic which has custom firmness options, and is just much more durable because of its innerspring base.
Now, last but not least, we have off-gassing. If you don’t know what that is, it’s essentially the odor that comes out of a new package, and, usually, it’s not that big of a deal.
In fact, all mattresses that come in a box have a similar odor coming from them. However, having a bed that gives off a funky smell… Let’s just say that it’s not gonna be fun sleeping on it.
Now, based on some Casper Original Hybrid mattress reviews, specifically regarding the Original variant, it had a considerable amount of off-gassing.
But it is to be expected, because an absorbent material such as foam will obviously gather some sort of smell during the manufacturing process, packaging, transportation, etc.
So, what do we make of this mattress? Well, I’d say the Casper Original is quite a well-rounded bed and definitely better in some features than most hybrid mattresses. Also, it’s pretty affordable compared to other branded hybrid mattresses.
Speaking of prices, let’s see how much is the Casper Original hybrid mattress.
Price
Now, in terms of prices, Casper Hybrid mattresses, specifically the Original, would fall into the mid-range category, meaning that it carries an average price tag. The prices listed below are at the moment of writing this article, so they are subject to change:
- Twin - $1,195.00
- Twin XL - $1,295.00
- Full - $1,595.00
- Queen - $1,795.00
- King - $2,095.00
- CAL King - $2,095.00
If you want my advice, I’d suggest going for the Casper Hybrid mattress Queen version of the Original, which is the most popular bed size. However, if you want some more space, then give the Casper Hybrid mattress King a go.
But, why would I recommend these particular sizes? Well, you never know when life hits you, and, suddenly, you need some extra space for a partner. Even more so if you’re looking to buy a mattress for your children. I mean, they’ll eventually grow up, and will need more space for themselves.
Therefore, it’s much more practical to get a bigger mattress and leave your worries behind.

In closing, I believe the Casper Sleep Original hybrid mattress is one of the more affordable hybrid mattresses out there with some nice pressure relief, and decent enough cooling.
But what about the other Casper Hybrids? Are they any better? Let’s find out by looking at another Casper Hybrid mattress - the Nova.
Casper Hybrid Mattress Reviews: Nova
Now, the Nova Hybrid mattress, unlike the Original, is what I like to call a "true" hybrid, because it doesn’t have any other variations, and was made for the sole purpose of giving stability and pressure relief via pocketed springs and memory foam.
So, let’s see how it holds up, or doesn’t, in some crucial mattress features. P.S. I’ll try to keep this as brief as possible, and mention only the unique parts about the Nova, because the Original shares a lot of similar features.
Pros
Just like the Original, the Nova provides great pressure relief. In fact, it may be even greater, because it has an extra AirScape layer with 3 ergonomic zones, and a layer below with Zoned Support Pro.
It’s basically an upgraded version of the regular Zoned Support. The Pro has 7 additional zones for comfort and pressure relief, primarily targeted towards the spine area.
Now then, what about motion isolation? Well, hybrid mattresses are known to handle motion pretty well because of the soft memory foam/polyfoam layers, and the pocketed springs that only move when there’s pressure applied to them.
So, just like the Original, the Casper Hybrid Nova is able to negate motion on the other side of the mattress with ease.
At this point, let’s find out how well the Nova Hybrid goes with different sleeping positions. In fact, it’s a lot softer than the Original, so it may be an even better fit for side and back sleepers.
Likewise, the upgraded Zoned Support layer has extra support areas that alleviate pressure around the spine, so it’s definitely a plus for those who sleep on their backs.
On the other hand, some Casper Hybrid Mattress reviews suggested that the Original was a tad bit too firm on the shoulders for side sleepers. Therefore, a softer variant like the Puffy Lux Hybrid would be a much better choice for people who sleep on the side.
So, now that we’ve gone through the positives, let’s see some lackluster features of the Nova Hybrid.

Cons
In terms of edge support, the Nova is not really different from the Hybrid Original, because they both share the same pocketed spring base. The only difference is the extra layer which, honestly, doesn’t do much in terms of edge support.
However, if you’re looking for some really great edge support, I’d suggest looking at some innerspring mattresses like the Saatva Classic. Even though it’s more firm, you’ll have less trouble sitting or lying on the edge of the mattress.

Table: Saatva compared with Casper
Likewise, any stomach sleeper will probably have a hard time adapting to the softness of the Nova Hybrid, because the pocketed spring layer will most likely not have enough juice to hold up your midsection that well. This may lead to sinkage, and some potential achiness in the morning.
Now, let’s wrap this section up with off-gassing, which is present in all boxed mattresses. So, before you place the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress inside your bedroom, be sure to air it out well.
In fact, there were multiple complaints on Casper Hybrid mattress reviews where people had to air their mattresses out for even a couple of weeks. So, be sure to place it in a well-ventilated area for the mattress to air out properly.
At this point, I’m sure you’re wondering how much the Casper Hybrid Nova costs. Well then, let’s take a look, shall we?
Price
Now, the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress is more on the luxury side in terms of price. However, the prices listed below are subject to change:
- Twin - $1,395.00
- Twin XL - $1,945.00
- Full - $2,595.00
- Queen - $2,995.00
- King - $3,495.00
- CAL King - $3,495.00
So, as you can see, these mattresses are definitely not cheap. Therefore, you can test some of these bed products out before purchasing them at some of the Casper Nova hybrid mattress stores or showrooms that are available all across the US.
All in all, the Casper Nova is definitely the way to go if you’re looking for a mattress that is on the softer side of medium-firm, and has good pressure relief.
So, now, let’s look at the final member of the Casper Hybrid family tree - the Wave.
Casper Hybrid Mattress Reviews: Wave
The Wave is the newest release of Casper Hybrid mattresses that features another layer of foam for extra comfort, and a new and improved Zoned Support Max technology. So, without going any further, let’s start off with its best features.
Pros
Now, the Casper Wave Hybrid mattress comes out on top in various attributes compared to the previous hybrids.
Firstly, in terms of pressure relief, the Casper Wave has improved Zoned Support Max layers. One of which is an AirScape memory foam layer which is divided into 3 areas for extra comfort for your body.
The other one is a polyfoam layer combined with gel pods under the waist and lower back. This keeps your spine aligned in whichever way you lie on your bed.
Likewise, based on some Casper Hybrid mattress reviews from customers, the Wave seemed a lot softer for most than other hybrids, so it may be slightly better in terms of pressure relief. However, some felt that it was a tad bit firmer than the Nova Hybrid which may prove beneficial for stomach sleepers.
Speaking of sleeping positions, which sleepers will feel best on the Wave Hybrid? Well, as per usual, lightweight to midweight side and back sleepers should get the most of this mattress.
That’s because it’s just plush enough to provide body-contouring around your shoulders and back. Likewise, the earlier mentioned gel pod layer might feel best for back sleepers who require pressure relief in the lower back and hip areas.
But, what about stomach sleepers? I mean, it may be just firm enough for lightweight people who sleep on their stomachs. With that being said though, the three top layers are quite soft, so you might experience some sinkage.
Now then, let’s touch on the temperature control of the Wave Hybrid. So, as we all know by now, foam-based mattresses are not that good at keeping you cool at night. The foam layers are just prone to attracting heat.
In the case of the Wave, it’s actually not that bad when compared to other Hybrid mattresses.
However, some Casper Hybrid mattress reviews weren’t that impressed with the temperature control. But, this is pretty self-explanatory, because the Wave has the most layers out of the previous ones, so it's much harder for it to cool off. Therefore, it probably won’t be suitable for a lot of hot sleepers.
For this reason, Casper introduced its own cooling feature called the Snow Technology which seemingly improved the airflow throughout the mattress. One of these differences is the QuickCool cover that keeps the surface of the bed a lot cooler.
Likewise, the most crucial feature of the Snow Technology is the third AirScape layer which is wrapped in Caspers’ own HeatDelete Bands. These bands attempt to pull the heat away from the mattress, resulting in a potentially cooler sleeping experience
In fact, multiple Casper Hybrid mattress reviews suggested that the Snow Technology was quite impactful, and performed much better in the temperature control department than the usual hybrid mattress.
In closing, I’d say the Casper Wave, in terms of features, has everything you’d want from a hybrid mattress. However, it’s a bit disappointing that you have to pay extra cash for some additional cooling features that may be subjective in terms of effectiveness.
Now then, let’s go through the less positive features of the Casper Wave, and see what to consider before purchasing it.

Cons
To be completely honest, there’s not much that I can hook onto which would make the Casper Wave worse than the Nova and the Original.
The only thing that could make a difference would be firmness. The Wave is slightly on the firmer side, so if you want a more plush feel on your body, the Nova would probably be better.
Likewise, as with all boxed mattresses, the Wave will most likely have some off-gassing, so airing it out before use is highly recommended.
Other than that, there isn’t really anything that the Casper Wave lacks compared to its predecessors. All in all, the Wave excels in areas of pressure relief and temperature control, with the key difference, obviously, being that it is rather expensive.
So, let’s see how much it costs.
Price
Now, the Wave is Casper's most luxurious mattress, so it carries a heftier price tag than other hybrid models. The numbers below were listed at the time of writing this article, so they may vary:
- Twin - $1,845.00
- Twin XL - $2,995.00
- Full - $3,595.00
- Queen - $3,995.00
- King - $4,595.00
- CAL King - $4,595.00
At this point, you might be asking yourself if there are any other benefits that you get after purchasing such a high-end mattress.
Well, this goes for pretty much any Casper product, but you’ll get a 100-Night Trial and a 10-Year Limited Warranty, so you’re able to test out the product beforehand, and have it maintained for a whole decade.
So, having all of that in mind, the Wave is definitely the top dog of the Casper Hybrid bunch in terms of pressure relief capabilities, motion isolation, and improved cooling.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a nice cooling bed that has a lot more bounce to it, I’d suggest looking at some Saatva products. These mattresses have innerspring bases that give superb airflow and responsiveness, alongside some of the best edge support.

Table: Information on the Casper Sleep company
But, what do I think about these Casper Hybrid mattresses? In general, they’re definitely a great buy in terms of pressure relief and motion isolation. However, the lack of temperature control and edge support should be considered before purchasing one of these hybrid mattresses.
Now, if you want to explore other alternatives, then you could check out some mattresses by Saatva, Puffy, or Layla that have a range of bed products with some of the best features out there.
